Dales Wildlife

Much of the Derbyshire Dales is situated within the beautiful White Peak area of the Peak District National Park, the second most visited national park in the world. Our main towns are Ashbourne, Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock and Wirksworth. As you would expect there are plenty of activities to suit your needs within the Derbyshire Dales
Years of agriculture have taken their toll on the wildlife in and around the Derbyshire Dales, but there are plenty of areas that the tractor hasn't been able to reach. If you know what you are looking for, there is likely to be a place to find it.  Though bears and wolves are unlikely to trouble you, if you believe the reports, there is a chance you may meet our elusive big black cats!
Bird Watching is one of the quietest and most enjoyable if you pick your area. Modern farming methods have reduced the number of skylarks to be seen but they are staging a come back as more land goes for set-aside.  Good areas for watching water fowl include Ogston Resevoir and Carsington Resevoir with their specially constructed hides.
