What makes Indian Cuisine so popular? It certainly seems to be loved by everyone around the world, and we in the Derbyshire Dales are lucky to have a taste of India right on our doorstep.

On arrival at Faraaz we were warmly greeted by the owner Munir. The restaurant has a sophisticated feel with it’s simple lines, excellent lighting and décor, with smart black leather seating and uncluttered tables. The staff were very attentive and friendly.
The menu itself is very helpful with a large selection of individual dishes to choose from, alternatively you may find it easier to order from the “Faraaz Set Meals”.
These start from £tba for a set meal for two persons and include an impressive array of dishes. After the obligatory Poppodums and Chutney, we tried the Chicken Shaslik and Meat Samosas, both were very tasty and beautifully presented.

For the main course we ordered from the Speciality Dishes.
I decided upon Chicken Shorisho Special, which was cooked with crushed mustard seeds and ginger in an exotic hot sauce with fresh herbs and spices. The meal was delicious, a good marriage between all these flavours it certainly did give this dish an exotic feel, the ‘hot’ was very subtle not overpowering.
My companion had Chicken Nawabi Special, (a dish containing 21 ingredients all individually roasted creating a deep rich colour which is made up of authentic herbs and spices.)
The chicken was very tender and the sauce enhanced by the gentle whole spices, such as cardamom, cloves and cinnamon sticks.faraaz_table.gif

Pilau Rice, Mushroom Rice and Peshwari Nan accompanied our main course. The Peshwari Nan was cooked to perfection and was full of sweet coconut, really excellent.

Faraaz also have a good wine list with quality wines at excellent prices, varying from £tba-£tba per bottle. You may prefer to try some Indian beer such as Ambari bottled Indian larger exclusive to Faraaz in this area , they also serve Cobra or Kingfisher lagers which are very refreshing.

For dessert they  have an impressive range form the traditional Indian ice-cream Kulfi, to frozen desserts such as Green Bamboo, Emperors Choice, Coconut Supreme.
We finished of our meal with coffee and liquors.
For those of you who are not yet converted to Indian Food then Faraaz has a good selection of western dishes.
