Ashtanga Yoga Ashtanga Yoga is an energetic style of yoga. It is a specific series of postures that flow together to help energise the body, eliminate toxins and provide strength, stamina and flexibility. The creation of heat through muscle work and breath control increases suppleness. In the Ashtanga workshops you will work through the Primary Series, looking at different aspects during each individual session. This will include Ujjayi breathing, bandhas (internal locks) and drishtis (focus points). Once a month on Saturdays 10.00 am - 12.00 pm Sarah Astbury
Sun Power Yoga Sun Power Yoga is an eclectic mix of three traditional styles: Dynamic Hatha - for alignment, Sivananda - for subtle mind and breath work, Ashtanga - for heat, flexibility, strength and stamina. It is a dance-like moving form which tests the body and mind as it gradually works up to more difficult postures with the sun salutation as its frame. Mondays 5.45 pm - 7.15 pm Wendy Snongjati Tuesdays 10.45 am - 12.15 pm Wendy Snongjati (with crèche) Thursdays 9.30 am - 10.30 am Wendy snongjati (with crèche)
Yoga just for men These classes are suitable for men of all fitness levels and are an excellent compliment to activities such as climbing, cycling, running, weight lifting and martial arts. Muscles are stretched and then relaxed to create efficient, supple, healthy and powerful bodies. These classes were created to provide an atmosphere in which men can exercise and relax without feeling like the odd one out which is often the case in mixed classes. Please note that the other classes are mixed and men are very welcome in those classes too! Tuesdays 8.30 - 9.30 pm - Jane Collins
Dynamic Yoga These classes involve dynamic yoga sequences combined with static yoga postures designed to give a cardiovascular workout as well as stretching and strengthening the body. The classes are challenging. It is helpful to have some experience of yoga but it is not essential as each posture or sequence will be clearly explained before it is your turn to have a go. Wednesday lunchtimes 12.30 - 1.30 pm (with crèche) Wendy Snongjati
Yoga for children aged between 2 ½ and 7 years. Yoga classes with a difference! In these yoga sessions, children are told exciting adventure stories during which they perform yoga postures which represent the characters, objects or animals in the story. They may fly on magic carpets, surf down a mountain or float off in a hot air balloon. They might meet mermaids, dinosaurs and astronauts, swim with dolphins or play football as crabs. Fun yoga games and songs are often included. The sessions end with relaxation, using visualisation techniques and breathing. Children receive certificates at the end of each course to show which yoga postures they know. Parents have a chance to put their feet up in our reception room while the children are in the class.
Wednesdays 4.00 - 4.30 pm Jane Collins Fridays 4.00 - 4.30 pm Jane Collins
Yoga for children aged between 8 and 12 years. A little more grown up than the Yoga Bugs classes, but still great fun. These classes have been designed to bring the benefits of yoga to the older child. Yoga can restore and enhance their flexibility, strengthen their bodies and also offers a tranquil space in which they can learn to cope with their changing emotions at this point in their lives. Thursdays 4.15 - 5.15 pm - Sharon Price
Yoga for Climbers These classes use yoga to enhance climbing techniques by developing mental calm and focus, improving balance, flexibility, core strength and muscular endurance. Understanding the relationship between breath, mind and body is critical in both climbing and yoga. The classes extend awareness into all parts of the body, harmonizing the body with the breath and working to improve climbing performance. Yogic stretching can also be used to ward off injuries that are common to climbers. Thursdays 7.15 pm - 8.15 pm - Neo Heny (September to May)
Yoga for Pregnancy The classes involve specially adapted yoga stretches, designed to create extra space in your abdomen for your growing child, as well as for strengthening your body in preparation for labour. The movements stimulate all systems of the body, to keep you and your baby in good health. Breathing techniques increase your breath depth to be sure of enough oxygen for you and your baby and to enable you to harness the relaxing and pain relieving effect of controlled breathing. The relaxation methods release tension and give you time to yourself to develop a heightened inner strength, important for a calm and intuitive birth experience. The Yoga lasts for 1 hour. Afterwards there is half an hour for tea and a chance to get to know the other pregnant women in the class. The classes are suitable to begin at any point between your fifteenth week of pregnancy and the day you give birth. Mondays 7.30 - 9.00 pm Wendy Snongjati Tuesdays 1.00 - 2.30 pm Wendy Snongjati (with crèche) Tuesdays 7.00 - 8.30 pm Jane Collins
